Parent trip to Castleton

Lesson: English

From the parent forums, many of our parents expressed they themselves had not visited many of the wonderful places that their children are able to access and therefore were not always able to discuss those experiences in meaningful ways.

As a result, many parents asked if school could provide opportunities for parents to visit these places.  Therefore, it was decided that at least 3 x a year, there would be opportunities for parents to go on parent only trips. This would provide a springboard to share and compare their own experiences and therefore extend language and vocabulary.

Our first trip was to the scenic village of Castleton which is home to the world-famous Blue John Mines, Speedwell Cavern, Peak Cavern, Peveril Castle and many wonderful cross-country and hill walks.  Our KS2 residential at Losehall is also situated in Castleton.

30 parents took up the opportunity.  School provided transport and lunch.  Out itinerary included a visit to Losehall, a tour of Peak Cavern and a walk around the village of Castleton.  The staff, parents and governors had a fantastic time as you can see from the pictures.

We look forward to our next trip!
